Group activities: Synthesis of single-crystals and polycrystals of new alloys, deposition of thin layers, post deposition treatment of as-grown samples, main supply of research materials.
Working Group 2: Structural and magnetic characterisation

Group activities: Basic and advanced structural and magnetic studies involving X-ray diffraction, X-ray reflectivity, scanning and transmission microscopies, VSM and SQUID magnetisation measurements, neutron diffraction experiments, atomic and magnetic force microscopies, calorimetric and dilatation measurements, field and stress induced measurements. Majority of the experiments will be temperature dependent. Feedback for WG1, information supply for WG3 and WG4.
Working Group 3: Advanced optical characterisation

Group activities: Measurements of optical reflectivity in VIS-UV spectral region, measurements of IR reflectivity using FTIR spectrometer, Spectroscopic ellipsometry measurements, linear and quadratic magneto-optical Kerr spectroscopy, vector magneto-optical Kerr magnetometry, magneto-optical Kerr microscopy, time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr measurements, time-domain ultrafast optical spectroscopy with asymmetric optical sampling. All measurements will be temperature dependent from 4K to 800K.Theoretical modelling of optical and magneto-optical response of materials will be employed as well. Working Group 4: ab-initio calculations

Group activities: Density functional theory calculations, exact muffin-tin calculations, coherent potential approximation, theoretical calculations of structural, magnetic and optical properties of the different Heusler compounds. Suggesting design of new materials. Theoretical research of conditions of martensitic transformation. Supply for WG1, WG2 and WG3.
